A French polished (shellac) guitar may not be the best choice for all guitarists. Like all finishes it has its pros and cons. French polish is VERY thin and allows the guitar’s top to vibrate with minimal dampening. If you want the best sounding guitar without compromise then French polish may work for you. Conversely, this finish does not offer the same level of protection, and may not exhibit the flawless cosmetic perfection typical of many modern finishes.
